Product Description

The Loch 2 Lawers Half Marathon is based at the spectacular Loch Tay Highland Lodges, Perthshire. Loch Tay is a freshwater loch in the central highlands of Scotland and the sixth largest. On its north shore sits the imposing Ben Lawers, the highest mountain in the southern part of the Scottish Highlands, which reaches almost 4000 feet. The L2L Half Marathon route takes you from the edge of the Loch to the summit of Ben Lawers and Beinn Ghlas.

As you ascend from the Loch, the summits loom down on you and appear to be an unsurmountable challenge, goading you to take them on.  Climbing through the Ben Lawers NNR you will be in awe of the splendour and majesty of the scenery and as you reach the first bealach you will glimpse the Lawers summit for the first time. The final ascent to 4000 feet is rocky and steep but the views from the top are more than worth it. Returning down Ben Lawers you will then make the short climb up to Beinn Ghlas before descending all the way back to the finish at the Loch. This is not a half marathon for a PB but it will be a unique and memorable achievement.

The course will test you on many levels – the rugged terrain is a mix of trail, track and tarmac, the climbs are steep and the descents are technical. Have you got what it takes to conquer the Loch 2 Lawers Half Marathon?

Great to finally have an event on such a beautiful and runnable course! Really well supported and managed. I believe it could become one of the “must do” running events in Scotland.

More than just the run will take your breath away at this event – the views are just beyond description! It’s a tough one but so well organised with some awesome volunteers to keep your motivation going and make sure you don’t get lost. I didn’t expect my first Munro to be during a race event but so glad to have taken part.

What a fantastic race with the most spectacular views. Very well organised Pete has done a great job. The marshals and medics on the route were very friendly and plenty encouragement shown. Will defo be returning next year by far one of the most difficult races I have participated in but a great sense of achievement at the end. Well done Tay Fitness for an outstanding day 👌🏼

fantastic event! superbly organised, felt save with all the covid protocols put in place, marshalls and volunteers were amazing! Guy at the finish line commentating was brilliant, the course was stunning, and huge thanks to all marshalls, especially the teams of two at the summits of the hills! Course was incredible, large sections that were runnable (I’m new to mountain running) and spectacular views – even with the low lying clouds! Man with the bagpipes around 5 miles in was a great touch as well. A fantastic event overall – would highly recommend a “one in a lifetime” course and would sign up for any Tay Fitness events due to their organisational skills and the overall experience they helped provide. Thanks again guys!

Absolutely loved this race, it’s got to be one of the best race routes I’ve done so far. Very runnable with a tough climb towards Ben Lawers Summit. The volunteers were so friendly and the organisation was spot on – everyone’s safety was number one priority. Well done on another fantastic event, I’ll be back again!

Absolutely amazing race ⛰️ So well organised and great support out on the route. Definitely the most challenging half I have done but I loved every minute of it 😊 The scenery was spectacular. I’ll definitely be back to do it again 👍

The toughest 1/2 I’ve ever done, but undeniably the one with the best views, and the friendliest and most encouraging marshals and sweepers, despite them having to hang around in the cold for hours to allow a mad bunch of runners to ‘run’ up two Munro’s, one of them the 10th highest munro in Scotland. Even all the hill walkers we passed were bemused but encouraging at this crazy race. Despite 2 days later I am still struggling to walk up and down my stairs I absolutely loved this challenge. As I said to the ‘man on the mic’ when asked for a sound bite at the end, It was truly, ‘ ‘wonderful’ and that was coming in almost last! 😂

First time doing L2L after having entered many of the other events run by tay fitness. Absolutely great support and encouragement from the Marshalls , mountain rescue , medics and organisers. This is one of the reasons I love to enter the events . This one ain’t due the faint hearted and unfortunately this year weather made it tougher. Having walked over the area before the views are stunning. The route gives you a bit of everything and ideal to challenge yourself

First time running L2L, really tough but a great event. Really well organised, and massive kudos to all the Marshalls on the course, especially up top, hats off to you!! The weather was perfect this year which made for an even better day out. Hopefully be back next year.

I absolutely loved this event. The route was amazing, almost 100% trail, grass, mountain! The scenery was amazing ..The marshals, medics and volunteers were all lovely and encouraging. The atmosphere was great even right up to the last runners finishing! The downhill finish made up for the effort of the ascents. I will definitely do this one again if I am still fit!

  22. Tim Warner (verified owner)

Great atmosphere with organisers and runners all supporting each other from start to finish. Promised to be a tough race, and it was, with relentless ascent coupled with just about every type of technical running surface. OK, the views were hidden by thick fog on the summits, and the wind was wild – but what a privilege to run/walk/crawl round this magnificent piece of Scotland. Huge thanks to marshals and medics, especially those at the top(!), so enthusiastic even for us tail-enders, and you made it feel a very safe race. I’ll be back – even if to volunteer/spectate.

My first proper trial event and first time up a mountain, this wasn’t easy but I absolutely loved it and will come back to this event again. Really well organised, a great atmosphere with a great bunch of people. 👍🏻

  24. Alan Gordon (verified owner)

Fantastic event, so very well organised and supported. It’s a very tough route, but its great fun and there was great camaraderie between runners and the support staff. We were unlucky in that it was misty at the top this year but that made it quite exciting as you headed into it, not knowing when you would reach the top. Very happy to have done it and highly recommend it.

    What an event!
It is tough. It is a half up a munro, of course it is tough! Just about every type of terrain going and it’s a relentless ascent. But it’s awesome! The weather wasn’t exactly ideal (somewhat out of the organiser’s hands) but it still felt safe with all the marshals and medics. Nice touches like the Loch dip to start and the atmosphere is always great at these events. If you’re reading this then you’re really considering it…. Do it!

Second time at Loch2Lawers – so good I came back. Excellent marshalls and mountain rescue support again. Loved the medal, DJ, music and chips in the bar at the end in equal measure.

What can I say about the route – it’s a tough un’ but I knew that and still came back! What a buzz and sense of achievement to make it up and down.
