Swim Loch Tay 2021 – Cancellation

Swim Loch Tay 2021 Cancelled Due To Blue Green Algae

Post published 05/09/21 at 9am

We are devastated to announce that this year’s Swim Loch Tay, due to take place on Saturday 18th September, has been cancelled.

Unfortunately, several very large blooms of blue green algae have developed around the marina at Loch Tay Highland Lodges, specifically at points that are used for entry to and exit from the Loch, as well as out in the main body of the Loch. This is a completely natural phenomenon, which we have no control over. Please see the image below for further information.

We have therefore been left with no alternative but to cancel this year’s event.

We understand and share the disappointment of this news but we are sure you will appreciate that our top priority, as in all our events, is the safety of our participants.

Next year’s Swim Loch Tay will take place on Saturday 17th September 2022. All swimmers have been automatically rolled over to this new date but anyone who can’t make the 2022 date has the following 2 options.

1. Credit note: You will receive a credit note to the value of your entry fee, which can be used against the cost of any of our other events this year or in 2022.

2. Refund: You can request a refund, which will be less a 10% admin fee, as detailed in the event terms and conditions on our website. This fee covers some, but not all, of the costs we have already committed to, such as fees charged to us to processing the original booking, staff and supplier costs, and third-party payment providers. This is very much in line with other event and ticket providers across the industry.

Accommodation: If you have booked at Loch Tay Highland Lodges and wish to amend or postpone your booking please contact them via [email protected].

The Loch 2 Lawers 10K and Half Marathon running event on Sunday 19th September is still going ahead as planned, as it does not use the Loch.

This information has also been sent to all registered swimmers by email, so please keep an eye on your inbox and junk mail.

Thank you for your understanding and we hope to see you next year.
